Back in 2020, a friend of mine, Alex, and I were rather unimpressed with the Oscars that year. I can't remember which decision exactly it was that led to us getting annoyed with them that year, but we decided we would each do our own versions instead. Using the same time frame and mostly the same categories, but with our own rules about which movies we'd consider, we set out to decide what movies we would have nominated in each category. He called his awards the Silver Sail Awards. I called mine the Golden Hourglass Awards.
Ever since then, I've also been doing lists I call my Retrospective Golden Hourglass Awards. With five years having passed since I did the first Golden Hourglass Awards, I've decided it's time to do a Retrospective and see if I still agree with the picks I made back in 2020. This is my retrospective ballot for the 1st Golden Hourglass Awards, using my own personal categories, and using the eligibility period of 2019. Any film that received a wide release in this time is considered eligible.
