he could not match her freak and the dog paid for it
jenn lawrence was fucking electrifying and the john prine needle drop was HARD.
Couple of really tremendous performances here by two actors who are being asked to not play any recognizable human being, just constructs to be abstracted. It's gorgeous and Ramsay is never less than ferocious in her intent and execution, it's just that there's nothing here to hold onto; not their relationship, not her motherhood, not even her mental state, because we don't see for one second what is or isn't being lost from any of that. Experientially this is pretty terrific but as drama it's totally inert.
among many other things, a massive win for cat people
Destroying myself just to prove I exist. Thank god for Lynne Ramsay, Jennifer Lawrence, and Seamus McGarvey
lowkey felt like a 2 hour anti-pregnancy ad
"i'm stuck between wanting to do something, and not wanting to do anything at all."
Itching, scratching, biting; disappearing into nothingness. Clawing at my skull, screaming for help, gnawing at desire. Love
As a mother of two, I expected something rooted in the postpartum experience, but this felt far more like a portrait of depression and disintegration than of early motherhood itself. The focus isn’t on the tangible struggles of caring for a newborn, but on the quieter, more interior crisis of losing yourself in the process. We rarely see her struggle with her baby; instead, we watch her battle with herself, against the slow erosion of identity, autonomy, and connection.
I was most compelled by the way it examines marriage, the quiet unraveling that occurs when parenthood magnifies every fault line, fundamentally altering the landscape between two people and pulling them into strange, often painful territory.
Jennifer Lawrence is extraordinary, going completely feral, fearless, and heartbreakingly human in her descent into madness. The film can be a little too abstract for my taste, but its rawness and intensity are undeniable.
perfect for anyone who thought mother! was too restrained. this is a hot mess about a hot mess but it’s so on fire the whole time i was happy to go along for the ride. we love to see Jennifer Lawrence swinging for the fences again, don't we folks.
are we just living one day after another or iterating into psychosis? lynne gets it
even the landscape shots were claustrophobic dear lord
