La vida puede ser tan frágil, tan irónica...Augusto Gongora abogó por la memoria desde que la realidad chilena se volvió cruel hace 50 años, pero a cambio fue perdiendo la suya poco a poco. Para su suerte, lo respaldaba un acto titánico de amor por parte de Paulina Urrutia. En esta película lo vemos de cerca; maravillosa, inolvidable y probablemente la experiencia más emotiva que he tenido en un cine. Deja en claro que el amor trasciende las barreras más complejas. Quedé deshidratado de tanto llorar 👍

Alzheimer is a bitch

Memory loss can be terrifying and heartbreaking, and there’s certainly plenty of that here, but in Paulina and Augusto’s battle against his Alzheimer’s there’s also plenty of heartwarming and life-affirming love as they hold tight to the memories of their 25 year marriage.  Directed by Maite Alberdi who directed another doc I loved in The Mole Agent

I’m emotionally shattered.

I remember liking the director’s last documentary, The Agent Mole but this one hit differently. The relationship between this couple is the very definition of marriage goals. The love they have for each other is beautifully touching, and the fact they find so much hope and care in the midst of these circumstances is even better. The ironic, almost cruel twist in which a man who made an entire career reminding everyone about the nefarious Pinochet dictatorship is now gradually forgetting everything and everyone in his life and when the doc starts to show this towards the end, it is heartbreaking.

All in all, a must-watch documentary. Some discretion may be advised if you have/had a loved one dealing with Alzheimer's, as it would certainly touch some fibers.
