My attempt to catalog and watch as many trans films as possible.
I generally define a “trans film” as featuring:

• A canonically trans character.

• Trans cast or crew members.

• Themes of gender identity, dysphoria, or moving between genders that I think make it relevant to trans film history.

That last one is tricky. Not all gender-swapping or crossdressing films are trans, and not all trans films feature crossdressing or gender-swapping!

Note also: not all of these are necessarily good or recommended representation. Something like What is a Woman? can be a time capsule of transphobia and therefore a part of trans history.
