1910s Horror ➡️

The more I’ve watched, the more distinct the periods of silent horror are. It doesn’t feel fair to compare the very earliest short horror movies with the burgeoning feature market of the late 1910’s. How can one accurately assess and compare such things when they are so radically different? It’s best to separate them, and for our sake, the dividing line is pretty clear. There’s before L’Inferno and there is after. Some shorts still slip through the cracks, but even those feel more advanced generally speaking.

So let’s see how the very earliest horror holds up and ranks, shall we?
