Hello everyone, I am Fritz Jangalang, your host for the December 2024 Scavenger Hunt. It's been a long time coming and frankly, I deserve this.
Thanks to Robbo for hosting last month's hunt.

Here are my prompts:
1. This scavenger hunt is so good, your head is going to explode. Watch a movie where a guy's head explodes.
2. I love trash. I love watching bad movies. Bad movies were my gateway drug into watching other kinds of movies, like good movies, or movies that are just ok. I learned a lot about bad movies from watching RedLetterMedia's hit YouTube sensation Best of the Worst. I also learned a lot about videos that are not necessarily movies. Watch a movie or video featured on RedLetterMedia's Best of the Worst.
3. Cameron Mitchell is a recurring presence on Best of the Worst. Wikipedia claims that Cameron Mitchell did not drink, but many of his film appearances seem to contradict this. Around 1974 Cameron Mitchell declared bankruptcy for the second time and divorced his wife, and seemingly began taking any roles that were offered to him. Now I invite you to witness a portion of his slow decline by watching any film Cameron Mitchell made after 1973. In the spirit of things, I ask that you do not watch The Other Side of the Wind. In your review, let me know how drunk you think he was while on set.
4. Before I started watching movies all the time I would watch wrestling. I'd devote so many hours of the week to watching wrestling, and talking about wrestling. Then during Covid, wrestlers started wrestling in empty arenas, with no fans in the crowd. I was watching an episode of wrestling and a wrestler got up on the turnbuckle and raised his hands above his head and started clapping, trying to amp up the crowd, but there was no crowd. That's when the illusion broke for me. I had always heard people say wrestling was fake, but I never believed it could be true until that day. Watch a movie featuring a wrestler that isn't John Cena or The Rock, because I never liked those guys.
5. Terence Young is low key one of the worst directors ever. Every movie of his that I've seen has been boring and visually ugly. Everything is dull and muddy. Even the Bond films. Yeah, I said it. Watch a Terence Young film and take solace in the fact that I cannot host again for a full year.
6. The whole list isn't going to be garbage, I promise. Before I understood how the Letterboxd scavenger hunts worked, I would just watch movies from the Random Roulette list. I sort of miss those days. Join me in reminiscing by watching a movie on the Random Roulette list. Use random.org to generate a number between 1 and 9,858 and watch the corresponding movie on the list. If you get something you've already seen, reroll!
7. This one is about arthropods. I think we all know what arthropods are. Watch a film with a giant arthropod. This can be any giant insect, arachnid, crustacean, myriapod, horseshoe crab, trilobite, proturan, springtail, or any other true arthropod. Films with giant velvet worms are obviously disqualified.
8. Eric Roberts is always hanging around somewhere. He can star in any sort of movie, from Babylon to Bigfoot vs D.B. Cooper. And star he does; according to Letterboxd he has appeared in over 600 films. That's far more than his lazy sister, who has only appeared in 71. So, I am fairly confident that you can find a movie in your favorite genre that features hardworking actor Eric Roberts, and then watch it.
9. When I was a kid I loved dinosaurs. Now dinosaurs have feathers. It just isn't the same. Watch a dinosaur movie, and to make it interesting, it can't be a Jurassic Park/World movie.
10. What do you think of the IMDB hive mind's Top 250 movies? Why do they come to a different conclusion than us? I think this is interesting. Try to figure it out by watching a movie that is on the IMDB Top 250 but not on the Letterboxd Top 250.
11. I love blaxploitation movies. I love the energy and they just seem like they're fun to shoot. I wish I could go back in time and be a blaxploitation director. Watch a blaxploitation movie.
12. Have you ever been in a fight? Do you know kung fu? Well, I haven't, and I don't, so I have to live vicariously through the fast-paced, action-packed kung fu and wuxia films produced by the Shaw Brothers over in Hong Kong. Watch a Shaw Brothers kung fu or wuxia film.
13. I think we can all agree that tensions are pretty high right now. Things are tense. All over the world. There's lots of crazy wars going on, and stuff. Shit's crazy. You know, they say the best way to relieve tension is laughter. So let's lighten the mood, and learn something about a culture that may not necessarily be our own, by watching a Russian, Ukrainian, Israeli, or Palestinian comedy film.
14. What if you made a really good movie but nobody watched it? Your feelings would probably be hurt, right? It makes me sad to think of all the movies on the Top 50 Films Under 5,000 Ratings list that nobody has seen. The people who worked on those films must feel so bad. Help them out by watching one of the movies on that list. And, you know, if enough people participate, maybe we can get some of them to graduate to the regular list.
15. One time I drove past a combination Taco Bell and KFC and I thought to myself, "One day I will host the Letterboxd Scavenger Hunt, and one of the prompts will be 'Watch a movie that combines your favorite genre of film with your least favorite genre of film. For example, science-fiction/musical, romantic comedy/historical, noir/coming of age, horror/family, or action/adventure.'"
16. I am fascinated by Antonio Fargas. I think he's my favorite actor. He's very versatile, despite playing a pimp 50% of the time, and he has a very interesting face. I'd put him in all of my movies. Watch a movie featuring Antonio Fargas.
17. Seventeen is my lucky number, and this is scavenger hunt 117. They aren't the same number, but whatever. Watch a movie with "luck" or "lucky" in the title. Dean Sullivan has provided a helpful list here.
18. Being in a long distance relationship sucks. I don't get to see my amazing girlfriend Beppy nearly as often as I like. Whenever I do a scavenger hunt or something like the Criterion challenge, she goes over my lists and picks out the ones she wants to watch with me. But she picks all the good ones and so I have to watch all the bad ones when we're apart, and we never have enough time to watch all the good ones. Watch a movie from her 2024 list of movies I wasn't allowed to watch without her.
19. My mom is a big movie buff. She knows everything about old movies, and it makes her so sad when I tell her I just watched Piranha 2, or Timecop. She has excellent taste in movies, so watch one of my mom's favorites.
20. They say you can't judge a book by its cover, but what about a movie? Maybe you can. Let's find out. Watch a movie that has a poster you think looks "cool."
21. Do you guys remember the circus? I never liked the circus. The circus was always in town during my birthday, and my family would want to go, but I didn't want to go to the circus for my birthday. I was always on edge because I was always worried that the clowns would come pick me out of the crowd to get into the ring with them, so I could never relax. But my mom really liked the circus. This prompt was her idea. Watch a movie about the circus.
22. My mom came up with this one too. Let's watch a World War 2 movie, shown from the axis perspective.
23. I used to be a big anime head. My favorite anime is Azumanga Daioh. But that's a tv show, not a movie. Let's make things interesting and ban Studio Ghibli. Watch a non-Ghibli anime film.
24. Roger Corman died :[ Watch a movie produced or directed by Roger Corman.
25. It's Christmas. Did you know Die Hard is a Christmas movie? Yeah, I did. Everyone knows. But did you know Aguirre, the Wrath of God is also a Christmas movie? Celebrate this Noel by watching a really unconventional Christmas movie.
26. One time I was watching this movie called "Hud" and I was like, wow, this cinematographer is a genius. That cinematographer was James Wong Howe. The guy is like the Caravaggio of cinema. Watch a movie with cinematography by James Wong Howe.
27. Uh, watch a movie that's just two people's names. The list will explain it.
28. I stole this one from someone else and just changed it a little. For this one, watch the 4th movie in a series. The person I stole it from used the 3rd movie, so this is like a tribute and continuation of that.
29. I like the ocean. I love boats and I love to swim and I love fishing. I don't really like pirates though. Watch a maritime movie that isn't about pirates. Here is a list, but it has a lot of pirate movies. I'm sorry, I tried!
30. As we prepare to flip over to a new year, let's look at actors who flipped from their usual styles, into the reverse style. Watch a movie featuring either an actor typically known for comedy performing in a serious role, or an actor known for being serious doing some comedy.
31. Let's see what the future has in store for us, or what the future got wrong, by watching messages from the past. Watch a film from the past that depicts the far off future years of 2024 or 2025.
If you don't want to watch something up there, watch something on my watchlist and let me know how it was.
Thank you all for joining my scavenger hunt. I hope I did ok. Be sure to use the "scavenger hunt" and "scavenger hunt 117" tags, but frankly, I forget to use them all the time and won't blame you if you don't. I hope you all have a good time this month.
