Now that's how you slit a throat.

Now a few things and circumstances can be different but I can't help but relate this movie to the Indonesian flick Satan's Slave. Having said that it's a good horror flick on its own, driving a narrative at a decent pace with some great scares, especially the background sound which makes things even more intense.

As we move towards the finale things become pretty obvious as to what's going to happen but even then it packs a punch because of the unfiltered and completely onscreen violence which was just a treat, and the cherry on top was the final twist that made it a satisfying watch.

There will always be movies that one can relate to with some other flick because let's be serious, coming up with a completely original narrative is hard so the only way to survive is to execute it differently; and this movie does it wonderfully.

A very slow burn. The movie is at times in Dutch and other times in English. I can’t say the slow parts didn’t keep my interest but it was a struggle to stay with this one. The subject is Supernatural and witchcraft. The last thirty minutes the movie gets really good. At the time I believed it was to late to save it but I really liked the ending which everything is explained in the last ten minutes. It is a struggle to get to the good part but you just can’t skip any of the struggle. Not for everyone. You can check it out on Shudder.

Terrifically atmospheric Dutch folk horror with some great visuals and an interesting story. 

I really loved the rural setting and just have a soft spot for all horror that takes place in the Netherlands or Scandinavia. Always cold, dark, and gray just like I like everything.

Still fighting off covid so trying to stick to movies that aren’t too complicated and even though this is subtitled I was still able to pay attention in spite of my brain fog. Points for that.

Interesting premise and starts off strong but quickly fizzles out under the weight of a convoluted story.  It tries to build tension and dread but doesn’t quite succeed.  The visuals are decent and the use of color gels are great at setting the tone of scenes.  The acting is on par with your average Horror film but the use of English mixed with Dutch and Romanian was a bit jarring, they should have picked just one language and stuck to that.  The movie is mostly atmosphere over substance, with a few script rewrites it could’ve been better.

This Dutch supernatural horror mystery may fall apart a bit in the middle but is suitably atmospheric and creepy throughout. It's more of a family drama that's heavy on the atmosphere and I feel like it could have used a good trimming, but it certainly delivers some decent thrills by using familiar family curse tropes. The second act of the film is definitely not the strongest after an effective slow build at the beginning. Thankfully, it picks back up by the third act. Even if it does have a few silly moments and some cliched stuff, by that point you've already been sucked in. The lead performance is very solid as well.

Pretty solid cult horror. The writing isn’t that original, it’s mostly the atmosphere, the ‘’nederhorror’’ is quite impressive, and for me; not too far from home. Entertaining watch that is worth a try for the fans of some gloomy horror atmosphere.

I can tell that the filmmaking in this Dutch movie is well done, but it's simply a slow-paced horror movie in which nothing intense happens. It has a great atmosphere, but everything else is just okay.

I think it's a decent watch, but not particularly memorable.

i've always loved slow burn horror and this one is no exception. it's well written with some astounding performances, and the ending makes everything else feel so worth it. i'm impressed, especially considering the shit shudder has been putting out lately.

Atmospheric; depressing; fakey; nonsensical; short; slow-burning; unsatisfying; well-made.

Modestly slow but still very well-crafted (really remarkable for a feature debut, to be honest), Moloch provides a great balance of local folk horror and creepy atmosphere to capitalize on the fact that horror enthusiasts always like a weird and spine-chilling story.

Despite being a slow burn for a good portion of the film, the last 20 minutes are so jaw-dropping that the film tone and pacing work in its favor in the long run. The setting, the story and the acting are largely competent and the ending is freaking awesome so I guess it deserved a little bump on my part (was going for 6.5 at first).

It’s refreshing to get something special and worthwhile from Shudder, I don’t know if I’m unlucky or I shouldn’t expect too much but I’m usually disappointed with Shudder Originals (in general) so that’s a really good surprise here. Way better and creepy than I was anticipating. Highly recommended!

Moloch || moʊlɒk || a pagan deity whose cult sacrificed children inside the belly of a bronze bull

Moloch is a steadily growing chiller that behaves like a beautifully painted collection of Babushka dolls. Open a piece, and another appears. Over and over, until there is only one perfectly drawn doll remaining, whose sole aim is to rid you of your sanity.

As slow Dutch films go, this is a solid effort with some impressive performances to deliver an interesting (if perplexing at times) tale of Betriek's spiralling journey of discovery.
