I love how chaotic Megan Stalter is. I’d have no love for anyone who lost my dog, though.

"The aim here is to show that Stalter is an actor capable of greater depth, and in the scene in which the traumatic event is finally revealed, she proves as much. Unfortunately, it was too little and too late to foster the desired effect. Cora never becomes more than a sketch of a person. Another character that might have worked in a short video aimed to be consumed on social media but remains largely one-note when stretched out for the length of a feature film. But the camera loves Stalter, and she surely has the "it" factor. She just needs a filmmaker and material that will push her further out of her persona. Maybe then, we'll get a better idea of what she can really bring to the screen."

A patience tester for bad character behavior. Which isn’t to say that unlikable characters equals bad movie but just that the calibration here feels off; everyone’s reactions to Cora feel wrong for how clearly terrible she is being. I also would have given this a little more leeway had I laughed more. Meg Stalter great though.

The overconfident and oblivious persona that Megan Stalter has hilariously embodied in several projects (perhaps most notably on Hacks) feels ill-suited to this introspective style of dramedy. Even given the character’s circumstances, it’s hard to believe someone with her disposition being given the leeway and grace that the film’s other characters, especially Manic Pixie Dream Label Boss Manny Jacinto, give to her. She’s meant to be a charming mess but she’s too ridiculous and chaotic.
