Yeah this film I’ve been putting off for an awful amount of time, I’ve wanted to watch this ever since I saw it advertised 9 years ago.
But as you all know I’m a moron who for some reason doesn’t watch major popular films
But another reason is because I’ve just got such high expectations for this one.
I really hope it doesn’t disappoint

And yeah this certainly did not disappoint in a single way.
What a fantastic film. Probably one of the most easiest watches so far felt like an hour if that.

It’s such an intimate exploration of the complexities of human relations, the feeling of love and one’s own identity in 3 (what felt like short acts) massively pivotal moments in the characters lives.

It’s wild that Mahershala Ali won an Oscar for this role, he felt like he was in this film for like 5m yet had an immensely impactful roll in such a major time of Chirons life.
All 3 actors for Chiron were sensational each bringing something entirely unique to the role yet also still being very similar.
I love Jharrel Jerome, I’ve only seen him now in both this and “When they see us” but it’s clear to see he’s such a talented actor and a stand out role in this.

This film said so much without really showing anything, the gang life of Chiron and Juan never got fully developed, his mums drug abuse never got overpowering, it didn’t show his rise and it didn’t ever have really have a fall.
This film could’ve been massively different with any other director than Barry Jenkins but what a great insightful direction he took this film in.
Couldn’t think of it any other way.
