“It’s weird that we keep running into eachother
Yeah maybe it means something
Doubt it”
Yeah I know it’s absolutely crazy that I haven’t seen this film yet, and honestly I don’t have a single excuse why.
Just haven’t.
I do think it’s crazy how I’ve been able to skip every single spoiler about this film despite its mass love and inclusion in pop culture.
OH GOD IVE NOT WROTE A SINGLE THING ABOUT THIS FILM AND ITS OVER ALREADY. JESUS THIS IS FUCKING AMAZING.
LIKE ACTUALLY FUCKING AMAZING
I understand now.
I really do.
It’s insane the chemistry between the two, might be the only recent Romance film where I’ve 100% fell for the connection between the two leads. It’s authentic, it felt original and extremely palpable.
Which obviously is mainly down to the performances from Emma and Ryan.
I’m convinced during that “I ran” scene they sacked off the script and told Emma to just be herself.
Either that or this was specifically wrote for her but honestly every role I’ve seen from Emma as of recent has felt like every role has been written for her.
She’s just fucking amazing in everything that she does.
I 100% need to watch Babylon again because although I did for sure like it I don’t think I nearly appreciated it even half as much as I should’ve done.
Damien Chazelles films with the exception of first man are just truly phenomenal.
But wouldn’t be half of what they are without Justin Hurwitz composing.
This felt like a beautiful love letter to the classic Hollywood Musicals and romance films whilst also offering such a fresh new perspective on the genre.
All the musical numbers are truly beautiful, they’re nearly all so vibrant but when not it accompanies the mood of the scene so well although spontaneous they didn’t feel forced in at all, they fully advanced the plot whilst exploring deeper into each characters emotions at the time.
And oh my fucking god that ending. Like are you taking the piss.
I mean it’s such a fucking incredible poignant reflection on what could’ve been. But ultimately wasn’t.
This film in its entirety is maybe one of the most relatable things ever put on film.
What an incredibly remarkable movie.
