Movies based on real events ranked <- pinch of salt, more like real experiences but still counts in my book.
Oscar Winners (Ranked) (2018)
(Best International Feature)
Never even heard of this film before doing this challenge and seeing that it won an oscar so don’t have any preconceptions going into it.
Oh for it’s going to be one of those films where everything just keeps getting worse and worse.
It wasn’t ! Or atleast it kind of was but handled it well like After hours does.
The whole police thing felt awfully contrived but bar from that I really enjoyed the familial aspects of it all.
I’ve not seen many trans films but I felt like this really handles its themes well and with a delicate touch. It doesn’t ever resort to cliches or stereotypes and instead presents a more nuanced approach to Marinas struggles. UNLIKE A CERTAIN FILM
The performances as well are fantastic, Daniela Vega as Marina just felt oh so very natural like she was drawing from past experiences with both grace and strength. Which made it have incredible depth and sensitivity which is the main problem that I had with breakfast on Pluto
would fully recommend this if you didn’t like Emilia Perez but appreciated the themes.
Or even if you lived Emilia Perez or want a much more nuanced real bleak and approach.
