An extremely strange movie that delights in its strangeness, but at the same time very fun. I couldn’t follow whole parts of this, but I also don’t think I was supposed to, and John Huston was having the time of his life.

This is an interesting take on the drug movie - we don’t necessarily feel the judgment on Gosling that one would expect, and the resolution is not one I’ve seen filmed before. It’s also a fascinating take on a white savior trope - we are well aware of exactly how compromised Gosling is, and he somewhat fails in his task. I enjoyed this because of how original it feels.

And yes Ryan, if you have a copy of Mein Kampf in your house, I’d assume you were a Nazi.

The first minute and a half of this I thought it was going to go one way, and then the next three minutes it went another. For me, that’s an accomplishment with a short - to be so absolutely surprised by its direction. What at first seems to be drunken ramblings are something else entirely. The simple camera work here in particular was something to marvel at - I can’t imagine how long it took to get this nearly continuous shot. Loved this.
