“He Mobilised the English language and sent it into battle”

God I love Gary Oldman, it’s absolutely insane to me how he hadn’t won best actor before 2018 but as soon as it was announced he was going to be starring as Churchill it was evident from his prowess and Oldmans skill that this was an inevitability.
And honestly is a travesty as to why I haven’t seen this yet, with how much I love films based on true stories.

And although I didn’t like this as much as I did Vice mainly down to the Directing (would loves to of seen Adam McKay do this but I do think it needed an English touch.) I still think it was brilliant.
Oldman deserved every part of that Oscar that performance transcended just mimicry and he genuinely transformed into Churchill capturing not only the physicality of him but also his massively complex fierce personality.

Bar from his performance I do think that the screenplay is the best part of this film, it’s tightly woven, it balances moments of tension with humour really well without over doing it but also humanising Churchill which history tends not to do at times.
The dialogue is fantastic, it’s sharp and poignant and the decision to make the writer such an important figure in this really allows you to reflect on the gravitas of all the words being said and the decisions being made.
The pacing is really well done mainly down to the fact that they effectively capture the urgency of the situation and massive pressures that Churchill faced at the time.

Dunno how this has less than 300k watched, would fully recommend this.
