Films I've seen or heard of that have great (not just any ole crappy ones) practical effects in them, which will always be superior to cgi no matter how advanced the technology gets. List might get pruned as I watch more of these.
Some films will have notes with links to videos detailing the practical effects/making of process, when I find something interesting for them.
