Tommen Baratheon???

War films are always a hit or miss for me, I adore films like hacksaw ridge and Schindlers list but films like apocalypse now and saving private Ryan I’ve never liked so I went into this with very little expectations

However this might be one of the most anxiety inducing war films I’ve ever seen, and it gets that point across in two ways;
first within the first 25m with 2 scenes back to back, being the no man’s land scene and then the Mine shaft scene, and also with how it’s designed to appear in one continuous shot which if I’d of known I’d of 1000% of watched it sooner.

I also think this might be one of the quietest war films I’ve ever seen, it doesn’t rely on loud explosions or weaponry it’s more of a distant rumbling of artillery or eerily haunting silence. in fact the score is what takes primary place throughout more of the action scenes and it just works amazingly.

But I think what makes this film truly what it is, is the performances from George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman in the short time that they have together. You really feel that sense of camaraderie and determination whilst also having an abundance of fear inside them.

I hated Dunkirk the first time I watched it but maybe I should give it another try after liking this so much
