Harvey 🎉 🎆 🎉’s review published on Letterboxd:
Should preface this with, I rlly don’t like Body horror, I quit tetsuo pretty early and I rlly didn’t like Titane or videodrome
I think the only complaint about this is just how on the nose it is, and a little repetitive at times everything else I really enjoyed.
I rlly need to check out more stuff from Coralie Fargeat. The cinematography and direction is fantastic, she balances the psychological depth of the story and the sheer visceral horror of that last hour so well.
She interlines intensity and grotesque imagery seamlessly even for someone who doesn’t really like this sort of tuff.
And don’t get me started on the sets, every single one is perfectly crafted. Particularly the bathrooms and those long harrowing corridors that only appear every so often.
Every main performance in this is genuinely amazing in so many different ways.
Dennis Quaid as Harvey is over the top in the best way possible. He’s cruel, sleazy, chauvinistic with such an intensity that you can’t look away when he’s on screen.
Demi Moore is fucking sensational, there’s no better Actress to play her considering the scrutiny she got in the 90’s, making this deeply authentic.
The practical effects are outstanding, I don’t see a world where this doesn’t get an Oscar for best hair and makeup.
The transformation scenes are both grotesque and horrifying all whilst being equally mesmerising.
