Slappy McGee’s review published on Letterboxd:
This is a TV MOVIE from the '80s and... it's really good!
I guess your creative team can explain a lot of that.
You've got Wes Craven at the helm directing. It's the same year (1984) that his Masterpiece "A Nightmare on Elm Street" was released, so his career was blowing up at this time.
PLUS... you've got the incredible editor Dean Cundey onboard editing the show. Wow! Talk about credentials! These two guys are elevating EVERYTHING around them!
So, your TV project is in GREAT hands to being with. So, you bring in a stellar bunch of TV actors with Robert Urich, Joanna Cassidy and Susan Lucci. Give yourself a budding kid star in Barrett Oliver (the lead kid from "THE NEVERENDING STORY" and "COCOON")... and bam!
A new family enters the neighborhood, led by the father (Urich) who has developed a new flame-resistant space suit for a NASA trip to Venus. The suit can also detect human and non-human friends and enemies. Plus it comes equipped with lasers and flame throwers. You know... just regular DEADLY SPACE SUIT.
The wife (Cassidy) and kids notice that everyone who is anyone is joining the local Country Club which is kind of "led" by a mysterious lady (Lucci). But membership comes with a price!!!
Great tension.
Great suspense.
Great pace.
A great TV movie.
