So many wonderful horror cameos!
Just loved that nod to horror fans. So cool.

I had heard a lot of praise for this film from other horror fans. I had never seen it before, and don't really know why. Just was always in the corner of my eye, per se, but nothing I had put on a list as a "must-see". But it really is worth taking the time to seek out.

It is very OLD SCHOOL in many ways.

Some absolutely great practical effects that are bloody and gruesomely fun. Great work to see onscreen. Really enjoyed that. (Granted, there are some pretty weak CGI moments, but thankfully, those are few and far between). These makeup designs and special effects are truly great! Some super fun stuff happening all throughout this film. And they don't hold back! Lots of gory deaths.

And through all of this, the biggest highlight is probably the performance of Andrew Divoff as the evil DJINN! It's a very uniquely specific performance. He plays the Djinn with the seemingly perfect amount of assholery. He has a shit-eating grin the entire time and a great menacing voice that works so well for this smarmy evil demon guy. He's a DELIGHT to HATE!

A really great flick from the late 90's and I'm looking forward to zipping through the 3 sequels now.
