NIGHT SHADOWS, also known as MUTANT, is a surprisingly fun little 80s creep fest featuring toxic zombie vampires (Zompires? Vambies?) in a smalll southern town. 

The poster is very misleading. It makes you think it’s an alien invasion film. Neither MUTANT or NIGHT SHADOWS really fit well either, and that’s probably why this is a mostly-forgotten film. Too bad because I enjoyed it. The creatures are mindless like zombies but apparently suck their victims’ blood — but we never actually see that. Their hands give off tremendous heat and they leak goop from holes in their hands. When they grab people, the victims get burned from their touch. Cool concept. I’m not sure if it was inspired by 1980’s THE CHILDREN but it seems very similar, right down to the toxic chemicals and the melting touch.
