John Carpenter is a master of creating a creepy atmosphere with his beautiful use of music, lighting, set design and most importantly he knows how to make the terror faced by the characters feel personal to the audience by creating these survival horrors where the sins of the characters' past catch up to them and there's no way to escape them. With The Fog all of his trademark elements come together to deliver one hell of a horror that is both frightening and edge of the seat thriller. Not quite as effective as The Thing or Halloween but still so fucking good!
