Hooptober 11: #31
[Criteria: 1 film starring a black woman]
Grainy, experimental, loud repetitive R&B, barely distinguishable sound, grimy aesthetic, and Vampire mythos turned on its head to show the subjugation and assimilation of black people in western societies using religion. Bill Gunn makes one of the best vampire horrors that I've seen using all these ingredients and also tells a beautiful little romantic tale amongst all of the other themes. Felt the length a little but was quite intrigued at the numerous interesting filmmaking choices.
