Slappy McGee’s review published on Letterboxd:
Well, Tobe, I guess they can't all be winners.
By the way, I didn't have NEAR ENOUGH DRUGS in my system to be able to enjoy this movie like some others did.
The film does show early signs of Hooper's ability to create tone via location and to be able to capture those kind of human details that often get left out of more polished cinema. There's several scenes that take place in a tiny cobwebbed patio that is straight out of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre".
But yeah... this film is just a bit of an experimental film at times - scenes that go on far too long for any importance - without the proper *ahem* enhancements required to properly enjoy them. And no true narrative or overtly horror element. The ending is just odd and out of place in comparison to the rest of the film.
So I'd have to say that this is a PASS for me and it's only for folks who have a huge interest in Hooper's complete works. ....aaaaand for those who are interested in what a horny dude Tobe Hooper was when he was in his mid-20's.
...heh...
