Hooptober 11: #14
[Criteria: 1 film by Tobe Hooper]
Hell fucking yeah, this was one of the most enjoyable movies I've seen all year. Hooper on his debut channels Godard in the way he shoots this with tons of experimental and freeform techniques, just messing around with style and discovering something incredible along the way, and the result is glorious. With no set narrative, this follows a group of youngsters around their lives and explores the political climate of Austin, Texas at the time of the shooting so beautifully through them. Such a gorgeous movie that I feel bad for not finding a HD print of this anywhere. Also I adore the music that uses so much of indian musical instruments, especially love the way Tabla is used in the score.
PS: this has one of the greatest sex scenes ever shot. People turning into blobs and matter of pure pleasure while indonwestern music swirls around them transporting them to a dimension beyond the physical dimensions. Good god, what a fantastic sequence!
