[Criteria: 1/8 decades, 1960s]

Between this and Onibaba, Kaneto Shindō already is among the top Japanese filmmakers I've seen. So much of beautiful visual storytelling with some of the best uses of shadows I've seen. Very eerie, very gruesome and quite sad. This being a paranormal revenge story of two scorned women against the whole order of Samurai makes it a damn near masterpiece. Fucking brillant throughout!
