One of the earliest gay pink films is still using training wheels, and just missed out on a historical interest seeing. I did enjoy a pleasantly attractive lead here in Tatsuya Nagatomo.

Terrific Scottish mix of western and samurai film tropes, all beautifully shot and fast-paced, with Koki in a star-making performance channeling her best Meiko Kaji (LADY SNOWBLOOD). Let's bring back nice tight 90-minute films, please. This went down so easy. Terrific score, too!

I went into this very excited and intrigued to see what a big-budget reimagining of the original film would look like. But not long into it, as someone who doesn't like boldly self-aware films desperate to be a cult classic out of the gate, I knew I wasn't the target audience for this. I'm not sure who is? Very little of the comedy lands and there's so much story for something that should have really been a pretty straight-forward revenge…
