Oscar Winners (Ranked) (2021)
(Best Short Documentary)
The Shorts were the worst part of last years Oscar Winners so decided it was probably best to start off with them
And I really don’t want to just copy what the most popular review is but that’s pretty much exactly how I feel, this felt just awfully exploitative and almost a little vain by the interviewer, I didn’t see it at all necessary for her to be on camera and it was almost like she was accounting for the older lady and trying to force her to be emotional by telling her exactly how her brother spent his worst moments and ultimately died alone without ever being asked to.
And the camera just kept on rolling.
At one point Colette goes for a full hug, the interviewer at first goes to do it, remembers the camera, only gives a half hug moves her to face the camera then asks so what would your mother say if she was here
I’ve got a lot of disdain for this documentary but ultimately it comes down to it being lazy and disgustingly exploitative.
