Nic’s review published on Letterboxd:
charming low budget ulmer picture that wastes no time at all - the version i watched had a run time of 69 minutes. there were a few almost laughable moments of quick pacing; bluebeard and the art dealer are discussing if anyone will recognize the girl and it cuts immediately to a cop in gallery asking exactly that. the music helps us along as it is constant, near impossible to miss!
fun to see a noir take on a more historical period rather than being set in the depression/post ww2 era. rides the line between thriller/horror, but the cinematography gives it that noir feel - once again ulmer applies his expressionist brush. yet another addition to the “guys who strangle women” canon. all too common in these noirs
noirvember 24/30, any on my watchlist
