“Those who survive keep thinking about the dead one way or another”
I saw the run time for this and really wasn’t excited to watch this by any means not only because of that but also because I’m really not all that into Romantic films but man this was fantastic.
Roughly an hour through the main character describes his driver as being that good he hardly feels her gravity and forgets he’s even in a car and that just perfect encapsulates every scene in the car in its entirety. Every one of them so very important that just utterly entrances you with the streets flowing by the windows and the characters staring directly into (what feels like) your soul.
The cinematography really is fantastic, it captures the beauty in both the profound and mundane. The use of long takes fully allows a moment to breathe and fully take everything in;
which you do need for this cause easily one of the most striking elements of this is it’s ability to weave together multiple stories + perspectives creating a rich tapestry that massively reflects all of the intricacies of emotional landscapes.
Much like “Cure” it uses sound magnificently it’s exploration of language both verbal and nonverbal highlights the challenge of truly understanding one another and prompted me to consider how much is actually left unsaid and the impact of that.
The dialogue is sparse throughout the 3 hours but really is so impactful.
This deserves so much more attention than what’s given to it on this app.
A Brilliant film.
