Oscar Winners (Ranked) (2022)
(Best Original Screenplay)
Finally getting around to watching this and I thought I would love it but I really didn’t all that much, I can understand why it won an Oscar for best Original Screenplay as it was a great story overall that’s loosely based on The Director (Kenneth Branaghs’) early life, however that’s all it was for me, I think it falls short in its execution.
The pacing feels a little uneven with moments of emotional weight almost undermined by a slight whimsical tone that doesn’t overly fit the gravity of the subject matter.
This isn’t to say it’s a bad film by any means, all the characters are quite loveable although not totally developed, and it does have beautiful cinematography all throughout, I guess I just didn’t connect with it all that much. Maybe I will on Rewatch
