this was easily the best looking classic noir i've seen so far. am definitely going to pay more attention to john alton in the future, he went hard af with the fog and shadows in this one. a lot of attention also paid to the fades, more so than i've noticed with other films of the time and style
plot wise was fine, but enjoyable enough to keep me hooked. the lead was alright as well, gave a solid performance, but the best was by far richard conte as mr. brown, his presence dominated every scene. not perfect, but still feels like an essential piece of the canon.
