5. I'm currently watching Twin Peaks and I'm thoroughly enjoying it! Watch a film that has an actor from Twin Peaks in it.
6. My favorite TV series of all time is Neon Genesis Evangelion and my favorite film of all time is The End of Evangelion. Needless to say, I'm a huge fan of what Hideaki Anno created. Speaking of which: Watch a film that was directed by Hideaki Anno, OR features a giant mech/robot.
BIRTH YEAR AWARDS
7. If you ever looked up the highest grossing movie of your birth week, this is something similar. Watch a film from your birth year that was nominated for Best Picture by the Academy Awards.
8. And now for the complete opposite. Watch a film from your birth year that was nominated for Worst Picture by the Razzies. If you were born before 1980, just watch a film nominated for Worst Picture from any year.
AROUND THE WORLD
9. I've been out of the country one time, and next summer I'll be heading out to Europe again (hopefully). Watch a film where the main character travels to a foreign country.
10. I'm also extremely interested in other countries' cultures. Watch a documentary about a foreign country or about other cultures.
PODCASTS
11. My absolute favorite podcast that I listen to everytime they release a new episode is Sardonicast. Watch a film that was recommended by a host on Sardonicast. Here's a list
12. Another podcast that I listen to occasionally is The Film Reroll. Watch a film that was played on The Film Reroll. Here's a list
WAR: WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR?
13. They always make war movies about World War 1, World War 2, and the Vietnam War. While those wars are still important, it's also worthwhile to learn about the wars that came before. Watch a film that features a war/battle that occurred before the 20th Century.
14. During the 40's, despite World War 2 raging on, movies were still being made. Watch a film that was produced during World War 2.
THE WORLD OF ANIMATION
15. I don't think this should have to be said, but animation is definitely not just for kids. To prove this, watch an R-Rated (or equivalent) animated film.
16. I know everyone loves Ghibli, but let's give some love to some other studios for a change, Watch an anime film that wasn't animated by Studio Ghibli.
FILM SCORES
17. One of my favorite bands is Radiohead (I know, I'm so unique). Watch a film that is scored by Jonny Greenwood or Thom Yorke, OR watch a film that features a Radiohead song.
18. Some directors also happen to be pretty musically talented. Watch a film scored by its own director.
THE SERVICE INDUSTRY
19. I happen to work in a restaurant, so whenever a movie features someone in the food industry, it makes me more interested to see it. Watch a film about food, cooking, or someone who works in the food industry.
20. A lot of my friends also work "glorious" retail jobs. Watch a film about a store, mall, or someone who works in the retail industry. Bonus points if you choose a certain mall cop.
ENSEMBLE CASTS
21. Who doesn't love the awkward atmosphere of a good ole family get-together? Watch a film about a family reunion.
22. There's nothing like the comradery of your fellow shipmates! Watch a film that focuses on the crew of a ship, whether it be in space or on the sea.
BASED ON WHAT?
23. I play video games with my friends almost every night. It's the way we all keep in touch with the pandemic going on. So, in honor of our shared pastime, watch a film based on a video game.
24. Let's face it, nobody reads newspapers or magazines anymore. However, some very intriguing films come about from the articles written inside these pieces of media. Watch a film based on a newspaper or magazine article.
ODD SUBGENRES
25. We all know about American Westerns, and Sergio Leone practically put Spaghetti Westerns on the map. Now, let's give some other countries a chance. Watch a western that isn't from the USA or Italy.
26. I have a buddy of mine who loves everything Lovecraft, from the lore to the creatures to the media he inspired. For my good friend, watch a cosmic/Lovecraftian horror film. Here's a good start if you don't know where to look.
THE CRITERION COLLECTION
27. Even though The Criterion Collection hosts a number of films from around the world, they certainly have their favorite directors they pull from again and again. Watch a film from a director that has 4 or more films in The Criterion Collection.
28. It's always a pleasure to see when The Criterion Collection chooses a documentary, as it isn't as common a pick as the normal film. Watch a documentary from the Criterion Collection. If you've seen all the documentaries on the Criterion Collection, watch a documentary that was made before the 21st century.
THE END (OF THE WORLD)
29. I remember being scared out of my mind as a kid as 2012 rolled around. All those rumors about the end of the world really did a number on me. Watch a film that takes place right before and/or during the apocalypse.
30. Aliens could very well be the end of the human race if they are hostile enough. But who really knows? Maybe they'd be friendly. Watch a film where humans make first contact with aliens.
