He’s A Perfectly Normal Boy! Hooptober XI:
29/32 - 2011

There are only a few Kevin Smith movies I’ve never seen, and admittedly, a straight horror flick inspired by religious cults in Waco, did nothing to get me into the theater in 2011. Lately, I’ve been coming back around to his movies as Clerks III really surprised me and as an old dude, like Kevin, I remember what it was like to be in the theater in the early 90s watching this indie thing go down.

Red State is strangely one of Smith’s most well executed film, like he was watching a lot of Kathryn Bigelow, but plays it so straight that it’s a bit hard to watch. The sermons, were played a little too well and the humor comes a little too dry and too late.
