So I finally read the original John Ostrander and Kim Yale run of Suicide Squad and it got me in the mood to revisit this and I think in the wake of those comics this absolutely earns the extra ⭐️. 

Because, like those comics, this movie absolutely understands that the juice of the Skwad is not how Edgy™️ and *guitar riff* TWIZZTED everyone…

Still probably my platonic ideal of a Bond! Certainly there are ones that I think are better movies but I have a lot of affection for this one in particular.

It was the first one I owned. I was obviously obsessed with the game. More than all that though, it’s just watchable as hell. And it pulls off the Bond thing of existing in a hyper-specific era, making that era seem pretty neat, and also delivering some pretty great set…

NOW THIS THING. Holy fucking shit, y’all. I think you are gonna FLIP for it. 

At first it kinda seems like a particularly showy A24 thingy, right? Like there is a daughter and a mom and they live on a mountain and they never come down unless they need to so that’s already a pretty great starting point. 

But THEN IT TAKES such a hard right turn into like full on Norwegian Black Metal witch shit, complete with some DOOZY…

And hearing and reading so much stuff about Johnson talking about “being lapsed” and how much of his mom was in this makes so much sense now that I know the game of this one. A game I think that is only to appreciate more and more and more as distance accumulates
