Massacre at Central High
★★★½

I'm almost certain that I've seen parts of this movie before. Maybe the whole thing. But regardless, it all seemed very, very familiar to me.

And in a good way.

This film takes many turns in tone along the way. And I kind of dug that. Like... a lot. It does play very melodramatically at times, but that kind of works for its overall style. Hard to pinpoint, but... it just works.

Now, the thing that is downright terrible is the fucking music. It's fucking godawful. And nearly ruined this entire thing. Actually, I do believe that if this were given a better score and that dreadful opening and closing song were taken out and flushed out to the pollute the depths of the ocean... this movie would be so greatly improved. No joke. (...well, that was kind of a joke, but you know what I mean...)

Yeah, the music is almost catastrophic.

And the title is a bit off point. This movie steers into social satire and I think the title of the film does it a disservice. Actually, ONE of the titles for this film is/was SEXY JEANS! The fuck? You can see the posters for it, too, under the "alternate poster" section in Letterboxd. Now THAT is just trying to capture the exploitation trend of the time... and would be as bad of a choice as that damned music was.

Regardless, this movie is unique in many ways for the time and after you get familiar with the style of it (and get past that godforsaken opening song) then it's a fun and most enjoyable ride.

Glad I rediscovered it.
