”You stay locked up long enough and you start to believe that you're nuts.”
Listen I’m not saying that the latest film we have from Carpenter is some forgotten masterpiece and a late great revival of his career, but I heard this was one of the worst films ever made and I simply didn’t see it. Does this have a rather simple and overdone plot? Yeah. Does it have any relatively good scares? Maybe 1 at best. But what matters is that by the end of the film with a rather solid plot twist, I thought it was alright!
Amber Heard is honestly really good here! Not given the entire world to make it something special, but I found she delivered in nearly every regard. The rest of the cast was more hit or miss. Borderline trash all the way to mildly entertaining. I can’t help it but I think maybe John Carpenter, even this late in his career, just never lost his sauce. I haven’t fully disliked a single film from him and given this was universally called his worst, I feel alright with. The Ward doesn’t leave his career off on a high note, but when it’s all said and done I found it fine, maybe even slightly good.
