I’m in awe.
This is 1970s cinematography at its best!
I feel like I just visited Spain, & it’s better than IRL.
Such a strange & wonderful story, right on the edge of a fairytale, but too bittersweet to actually be one.
I hope someday to see this in an actual theater, as it was originally intended.
Did Pakula make any bad films? I doubt it. I haven’t seen them all but plan to.
RIP Dame Maggie Smith (Downton Abbey theme song fades out… and, scene.)
While watching, I wanted to step into this film & be a part of its world (even though it might get me killed).
The Shoot may seem mostly thriller instead of horror (unless you’ve worked in the fashion industry (I have) then it’s definitely horror). Also so as not to give spoilers, there may or may not be killer shoes as part of the story. It’s of note here that the word killer has more than one meaning, as does the…
CW: this film starts out with the cat’s death. It happens off screen (thankfully). Not a spoiler, assuming the audience has seen the previous chapters: Ju-On: the Curse (1 & 2). The cat’s murder is an integral part of the Grudge narrative.
The story continues to be quite somber (perfect for the horror genre, obvs): Once someone is cursed, there’s no way to get away from it… & the infection spreads nightmarishly quickly!
In this installment, I loved the focus on the…
DOCx52 2026
prompt 44: Watch a documentary from the 1960's
Polished & square (draw 🔲 in the air with index fingers), this documentary short presents the perfection of what Seventeen Magazine wanted teenage girls to be (in order to sell them magazines; & also; so the magazine could sell advertising to retailers).
It’s a skewed time capsule, but interesting nonetheless. I didn’t much care for the clothes-styling, but did enjoy the bits of home interiors from the time. The doc also features a 17ish year old Mia Farrow.

Musical JUNEhem (#3)
prompt 11: Talkie Takeover! (Watch a musical from the late 1920s - early 1930s)
Kind of endearing for its early talkie attributes, and simultaneously, dry & barely watchable for the first half! So glad I stuck with this though. It does pick up a lot… & the saving grace is Ginger Rogers’ self assured & headstrong character Ellen, & also, the period clothes (which were breathtaking)!
The gags that land come from the story’s comedy of errors (& yes this is very…
MD’s Summerween Challenge
prompt 3: Watch a Found Footage movie that was released between The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity
For Rollins fans (🙋♀️), this is perfection!
Enjoyably type-cast, with a vintage look (created by the focus & colors (which enhanced the “truth” of the story)), the film adhered to the mocumentary found footage genre while not being annoying about it. I recommend going in blind because there’s a fun slow reveal twist.
