Incredible !! God tier level filmmaking. A beautiful and tender portrait of love, happiness and friendship. Payal kapadia blends multiple genres, blending documentary conventions with arthouse flair while paying homage to romantic dramas of the golden age of bollywood in addition to grounding her work in the authenticity of independent Malayalam cinema . Through her eyes she captures the sensual allure of mumbai while never shying away at commenting on the hindu nationalist political undercurrents and the displacing impusles of capitalism plaguing mumbai today. Love the moments where Payal Kapadia operates within the air of secrecy where love is expressed through silences and operates within the hidden transcripts of the everyday. There is a longing for closeness and touch in this film that brought tears to my eyes, its a yearning to be loved and the joy of sharing that intimacy with another that deepens the sensuality on display in this film.
A confident new voice in indian cinema and one of the best new auteurs pushing the boundaries of film to tell intimate and emotionally resonant stories.
