utopia. what is it? time. is it real? cities. how should they be ruled? concerned with the questions of ethics, power and life itself, megalopolis is the product of four decades of envisioning a future that presents an unflinching message. it’s a movie that is ultimately unable to resolve all of its philosophical entanglements and absurdities, yet it fulfills its purpose of propelling the ‘dialogue’. i am utterly, unspeakably, wholeheartedly amazed by it. having spent 3 hours in the queue to get to the screening and almost not being let in, i would without a doubt wait another 3 hours to watch it on the big screen. visually, it is more than spectacular. emotionally, it is perplexing and profound. i cannot wait until my next rewatch — it may become my roman empire (see what i did there).
