Holy shit this had no business being this fucking good.
For the record, I usually hate found footage and I think horror normally falls to the side for the comedy when put together. A hard balance to get right. But in this I literally screamed and I laughed and I shuddered. I was so tense. Every obvious jump-scare got me and I enjoyed every second of it. It was just so fucking stupid and fun and effective. I went in with very low expectations but have not enjoyed a movie this much in so long.
My first note was “Fuck I immediately hate it I hate him so much and I’m so in”.
My second note was ”Ohhh Deadstream I get it. You fucking idiot.”
It’s almost genius in its execution. They never rely on one type of humour or scare. They mix it altogether from subtle to pure slapstick but don’t compromise on the overall atmosphere. The acting and characters were great. The practical effects were stupid fun. It continued to escalate and get more and more bonkers. They managed to do so much with it.
I know I’m gushing praise but the heart wants what the heart wants and apparently mine wanted this tonight.
