This is the kind of film that makes me proud to be one of the few people who doesn't hate the found footage "genre." Awesome special effects, by the way, and more grounded in reality than most other vampire-themed movies.
Derek and Clif are best friends who have one mission, to travel around the world while recording it and posting on their website. Derek has a medical condition called arteriovenous malformation (AVM), and it was one of the reasons he was so adamant on completing their traveling plans.
A certain night, in France, Derek ends up going back to his hotel room accompanied by a girl he met a club, his friends invade his room as a joke, but what they see when they break inside is Derek passed out and bleeding, and the girl was nowhere to be seen.
Derek tells them to ignore that strange event and continue their travel. Although, as they progress their itinerary, Derek starts…
the moral of this story is don't go to france but everyone already knows not to go there anyway
This was an effectively executed found footage horror thriller. Childhood friend Derek and Clif played by Derek Lee and Clif Prowse who also are the directors, embarks on a year-long globe tour and document their trip. But it takes a turn when one of them contracts a strange illness. Acting was pretty good by the two leads. The pace was energetic while allowing us spots to breathe. Once they start piling on questions, the fear and panic start to sets in. Makeup and visual effects look realistic. The shaky-cam parts felt organic yet they managed to maintain visibility. It didn’t give me a headache at all. Towards the end, it got repetitive and the inventiveness dissipates. The way how the explanation when down was a bit weak. Overall, it looks good and develops enough tension, I thought it was impressively done.
A Canadian, found-footage horror film that works well despite the cheats of its stylistic gimmick, Derek Lee and Cliff Prowse's "Afflicted" is a sharp and exciting piece of work. Leaning closer to Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza's "[Rec]" than Ti West's "Sacrament," the film might suffer from the usual inconsistencies of the found-footage format; but those inconsistencies are soundly canceled out by the use of the format to record first-person point-of-view horror. It all results in something effectively spirited, violent, and spooky.
"Afflicted" revolves around two men traveling through Europe when one has a fateful encounter with a local woman. The man suffers a host of post-encounter physical changes until becoming something both preternatural and monstrous. His chest-mounted camera captures…
I was very pleasantly surprised by Afflicted, mainly because its energy made me more than willing to overlook its many genre related faults.
Most entries in the found footage genre annoy me because they just always seem to put the gimmick before telling the story, often resulting in most of what we get to see making no sense whatsoever, in that they show things that either can't or shouldn't be caught on film.
Afflicted makes all those mistakes as well. It sacrifices many things just so it can fit everything neatly within its style. For every scene that makes sense there is a scene that doesn't. So for all intents and purposes I should not like this film very much.…
This movie was suggested by RYSS over on my request me a movie list, if you want to suggest me a movie to watch go over to that list and leave a comment.
This was such a good found footage movie with a different twist to the genre. The way that it was filmed was amazing, the effects were phenomenal, the acting was very good. I always heard amazing things about the movie and i wanted to see it for so long and i'm so happy that i finally did.
Overall i would highly suggest it to everyone, especially to people that like found footage horror movies.
Empfehlenswert!
A quite refreshing take on found-footage subgenre which actually has genuine thrills and still manages to maintain the fun throughout, despite the increasingly horrifying events that are occurring. It starts as a typical found footage film but ends up being a skillfully crafted and well-acted one. The characters are really good and the storytelling is a huge factor of why this film work so well. There's also some cool action and stunts going on in there and the different cameras make those moments seem more tense and just all the more interesting. I'm definitely curious to see what the pair of filmmakers have up their sleeves next. If you are going to watch this I suggest not knowing much about it.
