Why does nobody ever talk about this movie?! Randomly stumbled upon it on Netfllix, and it turns out I've discovered a Venezuelan horror gem! It's suspenseful, atmospheric, and has a really interesting story - even a few jump scares didn't ruin this for me. The only thing that was actually distracting is the questionable old lady makeup on the lead actress - I wish they would have just hired another actress to play the "30 years later" Dulce. Some of the child acting is just OK, but it didn't bother me too much - really enjoyed this film and the way it slowly builds up the suspense as it unfolds the mystery of what actually happened.
Dije…
April Fool of Fear, Day 11 - Can't go anywhere on your holidays? Get a taste for travel by watching a foreign horror.
Well, this was freaking great! Weirdly the second take on "time travel horror" I've watched this week, and this is the superior one. I've really enjoyed the Spanish language horror I've seen so far, and I think this is my first out of Venezuela. One aspect I've noticed in these is an effective use of jump scares - they're actual scares, not just a cat jumping out going RAWR at you. The house in this is amazing, best haunted house since The Haunting!
This has one of the most satisfying endings I've seen in a horror movie.…
Long time, no see. More or less.
Aaaand it happened again. I watched this hoping to get scared but ended up crying instead. Haha. 🥲
This was such an interesting film and while certainly doesn't reinvent the wheels and the scares aren't that great, I do think it's worth checking out and feel it's rather underrated.
A tragedy occurred at her home years ago, now Dulce returns but the past may still haunt her.
So, I'm not sure if it was just me but I thought it was easy to guess what direction the film would take at first but still I was pleasantly surprised that it was taken much further than I thought it would. Putting the puzzle pieces…
I know that I saw this before, but I could not remember it. Dulce wakes up in her house with a cut amidst the remains of a broken mirror, and goes in search of her son Leopoldo. Along the way she finds the corpse of her husband. When she finds her son he is scared, but finally moves towards her - just before he is pulled into a dark doorway. Unable to find her son, Dulce calls the cops, who promptly arrest her for the murders of husband and missing son. Thirty years later she gets released from jail to home arrest, and returns to the house where all the trouble happened. Can Dulce and a priest who believes in…
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I mostly watched this to check Venezeula off as a country for my tour around the world, but was pleasantly surprised. This is a film that should be considered part of the modern horror pantheon, for no other reason than the clever plot, a clockwork tragedy wrapped in the aesthetic of a Latin American Gothic. I’ve long belived that the haunted house sub-genre is the refuge of the unimaginative—a localized claustrophobia that usually relies on loud violins and the protagonist’s refusal to simply leave. I find jump scares cheap. I also don't like scary basements. However, when a film weaponizes its narrative structure like this film does, my distaste for horror subsides and my appreciation for story structure takes over…

The House at the End of Time is about a woman arrested for the murder of her husband and kid... thirty years later she's released due to her advancing age. She returns to the house and we get flashbacks to the haunting then... and the haunting now.
I wavered hard in the first half of the film... thinking it was an ok, if generic, spooky house movie... and then I got more and more bored and I thought the film was a goner. But then it turns itself around, reforming earlier scenes with new, more inventive information. It turns out to be…
31 DAYS OF HORROR
FILM #25
If you're interested, check out the list of horror films I'll be watching this month. I've selected 31, but I'm probably watching a lot more, so I'll be updating the list, adding more films. I'm not reviewing all of them, though.

A Venezuelan underseen horror gem!
What starts as a typical haunted house film, gradually turns into something a lot more elaborate and twisty, a fascinating time-loop mystery thriller involving death, illness, tragedy, rage, betrayal, jealousy, injustice, marital trouble, an apparently haunted house and strange disappearances. Even though its plotting is a bit unkempt, it is interesting to see how the mystery unravels as we are taken back and…
