Ghoul Gruel’s review published on Letterboxd:
What a fucking gem! The poster for this sucks ass. It’s really misleading and makes it look like a throwaway Shudder Original (soz, Shudder) but the banner made me give it a go and I’m so glad I did.
It’s two movies really - a slasher and an action thriller - and it transitions from one to the other pretty seamlessly so it starts like Stage Fright but ends like Mission Impossible. The end is OK, if a bit obvious (and I couldn’t stand Andy so his role was frustrating and unbelievable), but the first half is stunning. It’s truely remarkable. The cinematography and sound are standout and it builds some very real tension.
It’s a shame it didn’t carry on with what it started, and it’s definitely flawed, but it’s also really smart and it gave me so much that I’m willing to forgive it.
The fact that Anthony Waller went from this to An American Werewolf in Paris kills me.
