A sophisticated game of cat-and-mouse between a high-tech surveillance team and my attention span. 

Employs some interesting (but less than groundbreaking) camera tricks, like the “Hardcore Henry-First-Person-You-Are-The-Actor” stunt, the “Raid-Camera-Floating-Around-Impossibly-During-A-Fight” gimmick, and the “Oh-My-God-I’m-Going-To-Hurl-If-You-Don’t-Stop-Shaking-That-Camera” crap from a hundred other action films.

If this is “Korea’s answer to Heat”…I think they misunderstood the question.

We have Shadows Edge and Eye in the Sky. Eye in the Sky is the original, which I'm having difficulty tracking down, while Shadow Edge is the more recent version featuring Jackie Chan and others. I greatly enjoyed Shadows Edge; it has all of Jackie’s charm and some great action. However, Cold Fish felt more complete—it had humor without any over-complicated orphan backstories or apartment-sharing subplots. In short, I liked both, and I'm not going to say one is better than the other. Let's see if I still feel the same after I finally watch Eye in the Sky.

The tailing is so tense and gripping to watch and the film doesn’t feel long at two hours running time. Han Hyo-joo is a joy to watch.

I haven't seen the Johnnie To-produced "Eye in the Sky" since it was first released on DVD by Tai Seng in early 2008, so I went into this slick Korean remake with an open mind. There's actually something refreshing about how concerned with old-school spycraft, surveillance, and subterfuge this is. That said, if you just want one of those patented Korean scenes of a guy filleting a corridor full of henchmen with a huge knife, that's here too.

not gonna lie, i love a good thriller that keeps me on the edge and it doesn't even have to be reinventing anything as long as no minute is wasted.

I haven’t seen its Hong Kong source (although I did see that Eye In The Sky is a half hour shorter), but on its own finely-honed merits, Cold Eyes is one very slick, very entertaining Korean action-thriller. Police surveillance unit on the trail of a ruthless heist crew, both teams equally exacting in their operations, while directors Cho Ui-seok and Kim Byeong-seo deliver on suspenseful tailing and impactful action in equal measure.

To-the-second precision robberies and getaways, car chases, gunfights, one dynamic-as-hell oner of a knife fight, multiple tag-team tailing ops: while the runtime feels slack at times and the camera overly shaky, I can’t say I was ever bored. Our high-tech field team has enough group chemistry and charismatic performances to fill the gaps in their lacking characterizations. Always more exciting than tense, Cold Eyes has all the law enforcement spycraft, underworld bloodshed, Seoul skylines, and multi-monitor triangulations you could want.

Serviceable yet also flawed bank robber crime thriller, not too bad, but it’s just lacking something to make it stand out.
