***************
An unheralded indie western that starts off pretty conventional and then takes some turns that are not entirely expected.
Led by a wonderfully eclectic lead performance by Bill Pullman, this movie is full of great supporting cast members.
You have Jim Caviezel, Tommy Flanagan, Kathy Baker and a brief appearance by the wonderful Peter Fonda. It's really a film full of terrific performances that are subtle and realistic.
Pullman in particular is doing a character that I've never seen him do before. Hiding behind his side whiskers, it's almost hard to recognize him at times, as his Lefty Brown is full of quirks and unique traits. Sometimes I wondered if Pullman was putting a bit of autistic behavior into the character. It all works extremely well.
A really solid western that is thoroughly satisfying.
