Extremely interesting "bio pic" of the making of Melvin Van Peebles' "Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song". Made all the more interesting because it is directed and stars Melvin's son Mario Van Peebles.

I did love that this showed the extreme PASSION of Melvin but it did not shy away from his negative attributes either. That's honest and I respect that.

Probably some of Mario's best acting as well.

I think this should actually be seen BEFORE seeing Melvin's movie. Would provide so much more context for Sweetback.

Plus, if you want to watch a film about the passion of the cinematic artist, then this one will fit that bill. Melvin was truly driven - for better or worse - he was a single-minded artist.
