Graham’s review published on Letterboxd:
Willem Dafoe or Willem DaGod?
God made little boys out of string
He had a little left, so he made a little thing
God made little girls out of lace
He didn’t have enough, so he left a little space
… and Bella’s space, it seems, is her very being. Stitched together with love, strawberry jam and an optimistic dream, these fragile fragments of fun that she calls “Bella” are weak at the seams. Pieces of a confusing life directed by a procession of strange men and supported by an infantile mind held together with blobs of confusion, human goo and pieces of string.
Lanthimos’ attention to detail in every scene, combined with some sensational performances has come together to deliver a clear contender for all the awards in the world, in what could be Emma Stone’s personal masterpiece.
Outstanding.
