The fast zombie-like monsters were okay, if not a bit generic, but the living samurai warrior statues were badass! Better than I expected with a decent group of mercenaries and explorers. Caves (or mines) are always creepy to be stuck in, so no complaints there. I would have liked for the samurai warriors to have gotten more screen time though.. Maybe they could have found a village to lay waste to, once they were out of the bunker.
Predator meets The Descent by way of Indiana Jones. While the pulpy concept is interesting, the movie is not. The direction lacks style and the script lacks flavour. The story is weighed down by exposition and takes a while to get to the action. Most scenes feel rather familiar, pulled from influential horror flicks. Suspense is lacking, dampened by a near absent generic score. It's not until the Terracotta finale sequence that the thrills ratchet up. Simply expecting fun, this quite simply lacks it. It would be somewhat reductive to call Dead Mine an underground zombie movie but that’s kind of what it is, just with some really extensive explanations for where these things came from (and a bit of The Descent in there as well). Be prepared for about an hour of set up before things that you’re probably here for start happening. It’s a terrific production with some excellent characterizations, it just lacks a certain "something" that would make me ever want to revisit it.

...But this is irrelevant to Dead Mine because Dale didn't conduct unspeakable experiments on prisoners of war and somehow create an army of undead samurai.
I have a friend who is a compulsive DIY-er. He's always building something or fixing something. He digs a LOT of holes. If this friend of mine lived in a horror movie, he would have been dead ages ago. In horror movies, you should steer WELL clear of large holes, caves, mines, any space under the surface of the earth. Nothing good awaits you in those places.

A gang of treasure-hunters head to Indonesia to look for gold inside old Japanese bunkers from WWII. So anyhow, they get trapped inside of one of of these caverns, this one featuring a remarkably well-preserved laboratory where horrifying medical-experiments were conducted. As you might have guessed, some of those experiments aren't quite over yet.
For as seemingly tired a concept as this, Dead Mine was nonetheless entertaining. Without giving much away, there are some very familiar character-archetypes here, including the overused and unlikely "elderly soldier who never learned the war was over." The way this narrative tool is employed though somehow didn't threaten to take the story into the bore-zone for me. It's not rocket science, but it kept me engaged for an hour and a half - There are some good monsters too...
Dead Mine might’ve had something if it didn’t take until the 70 minute mark of its 90 minute runtime to get to any of the action. Well, at least it had decent sound design….

I thought I would like this movie more than I actually did. It sounded pretty cool and the low ratings (mostly) from friends didn't really discourage me. This is one time I agree with them though. The story is about some treasure hunters and their hired soldiers out looking for gold. They find instead a medical bunker where experiments were done during the Second World War. Instead of treasure, they find some other things that got left behind.

Awesome monster effects, good looking gore, decent acting, an interesting story, and it all takes place in caves/a Japanese bunker. The setting is what did it for me. It reminded me of The Descent at times which i absolutely loved.
The story went a direction that i was not expecting. That's always a good thing. I shouldn't have sat on this film for so long. It was an entertaining watch. The setting, makeup, and monsters really stand out.
Hidden Horror Gem.
Definitely worth owning on dvd or bluray.

Dumb b-movie imitation of The Descent (2005) where Miki Mizuno, who previously starred in Sion Sono's Guilty of Romance (2011), outshined the entire cast. Managed to build up decent atmosphere early on thanks to its eerie sound design, but gradually became more bombastic and far-fetched which ruined its attempts at claustrophobic tension.
Surprisingly enjoyable nonetheless, even if just for how freaky the twists turned out. An easy watch if you're down for horror that's more focused on being action-packed than scary.

Treasure hunters get trapped in a mine shaft that lead to an internment camps for Japanese POWs. Turns out that these prisoners were getting experimented on to make them zombies as weapons.
The cave/tunnel system was a cool setting for an action horror type. Some of the zombies had a descent type feel while other had a sumarai suit terracotta warrior look. Both were cool in their own right.
The end kind of seemed sudden, as if it were a pilot episode to a series. Some of the storylines just go unanswered. It just seemed unresolved.
Otherwise it's a perfectly fine horror action movie with more action than horror.
Totally underwhelming blend of The Descent and Outpost. Not actually bad, just very generic.
