This was my first Argento. I was aware of the hype. The bar was already high. I had no idea what it was about, who was in it, or what I might get. Completely blind.
I don’t know how to describe this movie. It was my first exposure to such a different style of horror cinema and it felt so fresh and unique. It was raw, yet magical. Real, but fantasy. There was a weird thread of narrative that went all over the place. Did it make sense? I wasn’t sure. Didn’t care. I just went for the ride and figured I’d pick up the pieces. Switzerland. Jennifer Connelly. Insects. Murder. Monkey. Powers. I like all of these things.
If there was one thing I’d change, I’d have amped up the energy or gore of the first few kills. Not a biggy. I’m just used to more and I’m greedy. Although, the whole scene with the pool of dead body broth was absolutely filthy and I loved it. A top 10 horror scene IMO.
Phenomenal.
