***************

A deliciously intriguing spaghetti western that really treads the line between right/wrong and moral/immoral. With a strong and subtle performance by legendary madman Klaus Kinski, this flick definitely surprises and packs a powerful wallop... especially the ending.

It also contains a beautiful score by one of my favorite composers Ennio Morricone. He's a master of film scores and this one is no different. Haunting at the right spots, it enhances everything onscreen.

As the defacto "bad guy" in the movie, Kinski's character isn't all that bad. He's a bounty hunter who lives within the law and within those certain set of ethical codes that bounty hunters dwell. Love it or hate it, he's living the life he has chosen and unafraid to answer challenges when others stand in his way. He may not be all that likable, but he's not necessarily "wrong" or a bad guy... he's just on the other side than most of the characters here. This makes everything all that more interesting.

Especially... when the big climax comes.

And when it does, it spurs many questions about the central themes that are not easily answered. I love that sort of pondering. Fun stuff and a great film.
