Very unique take on presenting a ghost story. We get a BBC show called "Ghostwatch" that is "live broadcasting" a potential haunting at the flat of a mother and her two daughters. There's a 3-person film crew inside the home with the daughters, another crew outside the house, the mother in a nearby studio, and back at the BBC headquarters is the host with a paranormal expert who has been monitoring the family and the activities for a long while along with a phone bank for people to call in and report stories, ask questions and point out mysteries that are unfolding before them - this is headed up by the in-studio reporter who is the husband of the reporter inside the house.
The first hour and change is all set-up and it is very, very dry. Just exposition and backstory, while setting up that this is more than likely just a hoax.
Then the final 20-25 minutes makes all the boring stuff of the first hour really pay off. As a matter of fact, when the movie ended I felt like it had just reached the end of ACT TWO and had an entire act to tell. But alas, it was over.
I think I would have liked this so much better with only 30 minutes of setup, then right into the final part and then AN ENTIRE NEW THIRD ACT that would continue where this movie left off. Now that would have been awesome.
As it is... it's a long, long wait while things get discussed and volleyed about until the final bit which was a lot of fun!
